Trieste Design Contest

The 2021 edition of "BASICS - 14th International Design Contest Trieste Contemporanea" aims to reflect on individual contribution we can make to sustainable development. Basic issues of concern are how to effectively change ourselves and increase our responsibility to others and to our planet. Designers from 24 Central Eastern European countries are called to propose and design a basic object fit for serviceable use, iconic of the process of change underway, while reflecting on new meanings and purposes, which also objects and tools take when addressing sustainable goals or facing contingencies (e.g. as it occurs during an unprecedented outbreak). The rules, provided prizes and the registration form are available on the official website. 

The announcement asks for a project of an object in response to the edition’s requested theme and material. Once the participation terms are up, an international jury selects among the most interesting works the winners and a number of projects to be executed and shown in a conclusive exhibition, that is intended to be touring in different venues.
