Chulitna Lodge is 180 miles (aprx. 290 km) from the nearest road, with fly-in access only. A historical landmark on the shores of Lake Clark National Park. The Wilderness Retreat seeks to provide the time, space, clarity, and facilities for all forms of creative professionals or researchers to make and meditate.
The facilities are sufficient for many processes. There is a complete wood-shop representing most every tool one would need. Some Printmaking and Digital Photography tools. Light is ample, as is space for painters.
Writers and researchers will find the library a great place to find everything from obscure local native legends, to biology, anatomy or taxa.
Musicians - Recording space & equipment supported. They also have a piano, keyboard, a couple guitars and ukelele's, and some other various instruments.
They currently do not have ceramic facilities, but do plan to host a kiln building workshop and pottery workshops in the near future.
Most any material needed can be flown in, given enough notice.
Fellowships:
- All expenses covered including gourmet meals, travel stipend, and charter flight from Anchorage to the lodge.
- Each Fellow is given a 20' yurt for living and working. All meals are provided by an on-site Chef in the Main Lodge. The bathhouses are stand alone structures not far from each living space.
- Full 6 week commitment required.
- Session 1 (Early Summer): May 17 – June 26; fantastic beauty full of hope and spring blossoms
- Session 2 (Mid-Summer): July 1 - August 10; great intensity with the midnight sun
- Session 3 (Late Summer): August 17 - September 26; brings salmon, the changing of the leaves, and Aurora Borealis
