In autumn 2023, Swedish Lapland Air offers a research-based residence for visual artists working with performance art from 18 September – 13 October 2023.
Applicants should be professional visual artists working with performance with at least 2 years experience. Swedish and international artists can apply. It is also possible to apply as a duo, there are two bedrooms available.
Jokkmokk is a very small city located north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden and home to the Sami people, with a population of 4,900 inhabitants. In Jokkmokk, there are several Sami cultural institutions, including the Ájtte Swedish Mountain and Sami Museum, the Sami Education Center/Sámij åhpadusguovdásj, and the Sámi Duodji/Sami handicraft foundation. Despite Jokkmokk's small size, the municipality has a rich cultural life and many active cultural workers.
The Artists in Residence will have the opportunity to meet local artists and artisans, as well as the opportunity to do research on a specific theme linked to the place. During the stay, the artist should give a presentation of their artistic work.
The residence offers Tax-free scholarship of SEK 15,000, Study visits/ activities/ materials/ travel costs up to SEK 15,000, Accommodation, Private workspace and tailor-made program during the stay based on theme/ wishes.
Last day for Open call is 31th of March at midnight. The decision will be announced in April.
